Scripture: Proverbs 6:12-19
Verses 12-15
They are constant liars – They manipulate people and situations by any means necessary. They will signal with their bodies that they are not telling the whole truth and get people to side with them.
Their perverted hearts plot evil – They constantly are stirring up trouble. Even if things might seem to be ok on the outside, their hearts are perverted and they are plotting evil. They wonder how they can cause trouble today.
Verses 16-19 - There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests:
Haughty eyes – We should be humble. When we are humble God gives grace and we can receive grace. When we are prideful we have a disposition that cannot receive grace and does not listen to God (James 4:6).
A lying tongue – We should bridal our tongues. We cannot let both good things and bad things to come from it. Recognize all people are created in God’s image and speak to them accordingly (James 3:1-12).
Hands that kill the innocent – We should always give life and be gentle. Even if someone is not innocent, we should be gentle and seek to restore them, not kill them (Gal. 6:1).
A heart that plots evil – We should seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness and everything else will be put in place by God (Matthew 6:33).
Feet that race to do wrong – We should be in a race to do right. We are told to compete and outdo one another in showing honor (Rom. 12:10).
A false witness who pours out lies – We should tell the truth all the time (Col. 3:9-10). Even when the truth is hard, it should be told; there is no other way.
